Cape York Tour Guide Preparation

What to take on a motorbike tour

Ever wondered what a seasoned Cape York tour guide packs in his backpack for tour? From essential tools to first-aid supplies, we’re always prepared for whatever Cape York throws our way. In this video, Couso gives us a look inside his gear bag. The essentials that keep him and the crew safe and ready for anything the track throws their way.

As the lead rider and tour guide for Ride Industries, Couso has spent years exploring the rugged trails between Cairns and Cape York. Everything in his backpack has a purpose, from tools and first aid supplies to snacks, hydration and emergency gear. Everything has been chosen for practicality and reliability and he never carries unnecessary items. When you’re guiding a group of 15 riders through some of Australias most remote country, being prepared isn’t optional.

In true Couso style, he keeps things simple but effective (work smarter, not harder). He has spent years fine tuning and testing the gear that ends up in his backpack and has nailed it. This video shows you the gear that gets him through a full week on tour including what he carries for himself plus all his spare parts and tools for the bikes.

Once full, his backpack weighs almost 20kg, including a 3L water bladder, which is essential for all riders on tour. Thats a lot of weight for one man to carry and Couso does it with such ease after years of being a Cape York tour guide.
