FAQ’s
What bikes do we ride?
We ride Suzuki DRZ 400’s. This versatile and rugged motorbike is perfectly suited for the challenging terrains of Cape York.
What do I need to be able to ride on tour?
You will need a valid motorbike license or learners permit. We will need to see this before leaving for tour.
What gear do I need?
You must wear an approved motorbike helmet, boots, goggles, gloves and protective armour. We recommend bringing a 3L water bladder to keep you hydrated in the Cape York climate. You will be able to fill this each day
What happens if I have an accident?
Your tour guides are first aid trained and carry a first aid kit with them in case of minor injuries. We also have a satellite phone and personal EPIRB to call for emergency services if needed. We recommend getting travel insurance that covers you for most activities but especially motorbike riding
What happens if I damage or break the bike?
We understand that accidents happen. If you severely break or damage an important part on the motorbike, we will ask you to pay for the cost to replace it. Our crew at Ride can almost always get a bike going again, so if there’s any breakdowns we will try our best to fix it and get you back riding as soon as possible.
How experienced do I have to be?
As long as you have had some off-road experience, you will be fine. We cater for all skill levels and our fantastic guides will help you along the way.
Can I bring my own bike?
Absolutely, the cost of the tour becomes cheaper but your bike must meet the following criteria. A long-range fuel tank (minimum 300km range), new tyres and heavy-duty tubes, new bearings and brake pads, be in good condition and road registered. Additionally, you’re responsible for supplying your own fluids, air filters (for changes/cleaning), spare parts, spare tyres, spare HD tubes. You’ll also be required to perform any necessary servicing or maintenance on your bike throughout the tour.
What do I need to bring?
You will need to bring a sleeping bag and pillow, a king single sheet to go over the mattress, all your riding gear, clothes to wear at night, toiletries, towel, cash for souvenirs/washing machines.
