The Starcke Track with Couso- Wakooka

The Starcke Track (or Wakooka) is one of the lesser known tracks in Far North Queensland. It is rugged, remote and packed with everything that makes adventure riding in Cape York unforgettable. This blog features our latest video, where Couso takes on the Starcke Track on his KTM 500. With GoPro and Drone footage capturing the wild beauty of this off road route, you’re bound to love it.

The Starcke Track runs between Cooktown and Cape Melville. Winding through some of the most remote country in Far North Queensland, it is unpredictable but absolutely stunning. Sandy stretches, creek crossings and deep ruts will keep you on your toes. Open savannah stretches endlessly in every direction, making you feel like you’re a long way from anywhere.

The Starcke track is a favourite among our more experienced riders, and those who love off roading and sand riding. It’s not as well known as the CREB Track or Telegraph Track but it’s just as rewarding, especially if you like a challenge. This is the most remote section on tour, and it’s not uncommon to go hours, sometimes all day, without seeing another person.

It doesn’t get much better than rolling in to camp in Lakefield National Park (Rinyirru) after a long and dusty day, kicking off your boots and cracking a cold beer by the beautiful Normanby river. Its the perfect finish to an awesome day on the Starcke Track.

In our video, Couso gives you a front row seat of what riding the Starcke Track is really like. From the bull dust and heat to the remote beauty that makes this part of the Cape so special.
