The Frenchman’s Track is one of the most iconic and challenging off-road routes in Cape York. It is a favourite amongst riders chasing the real Far North Queensland experience. Making its way through the beautiful Iron Range National Park. The Frenchman’s Track is well known for its rugged terrain, deep sand sections, beautiful scenery and two very famous crossings. The Pascoe River, renowned for its large boulders, powerful flow, and it’s steep, rocky entrance and exit. This crossing is a true test of skill, resilience and team work. The second crossing is the mighty Wenlock River, this crossing is known for being wide, deep and flowing quickly, which makes for a very challenging crossing. But by the end of the season (like in this video) it is reduced to a little trickle. The unforgiving bull dust and steep climb at the exit creates a challenge all season.
The Iron Range is one of the most unique landscapes and areas in Far North Queensland. Unlike anywhere else in the Cape, this region blends tropical heathlands, granite outcrops and pockets of rainforest. It is home to rare wildlife, WW2 history and some of the most remote country you can ride through. Everyone should visit this beautiful part of Cape York at least once in their lives.
